USE of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technologies

The New Journal of Urology have established the following guidelines regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in the preparation of manuscripts:

1. Disclosure of AI Usage

Authors are required to disclose any utilization of AI-assisted technologies (e.g., Large Language Models, chatbots, or image generators) during the manuscript preparation process.
If AI tools were employed for writing assistance, such as drafting or editing text, this must be clearly stated in the acknowledgments (in the Title Page).
If AI technologies were used for data collection, analysis, or figure generation, detailed information regarding the specific tools and the manner of their application should be provided in the methods section.

2. Responsibility and Accountability

AI technologies cannot be credited as authors. Authorship implies responsibility and accountability for the content of the manuscript, which AI tools cannot assume.
Therefore, all authors must ensure that any content generated or modified using AI tools is thoroughly reviewed and edited to meet the journal's standards of scholarly writing.
Authors take full responsibility for the integrity, originality, and accuracy of the entire manuscript, including sections where AI-assisted technologies were utilized.

3. Ethical Considerations

Authors must affirm that their submission is free from plagiarism and that proper citations are provided for all referenced materials, including content influenced or generated by AI. Failure to adhere to these ethical standards will be considered a violation of publication ethics and may result in the rejection of the manuscript or retraction of the published article.

4. Data Privacy and Confidentiality

Authors bear the responsibility for maintaining the confidentiality of research data, particularly sensitive patient information. The use of AI technologies must not compromise patient privacy. Sharing confidential patient data with AI tools can lead to significant ethical and legal issues, including breaches of privacy and potential misuse of information.

5. Compliance with International Guidelines

For comprehensive information on authorship roles and the ethical use of AI technologies, authors are encouraged to refer to the recommendations provided by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) regarding the definition of authors and contributors.
