Abstract

Ureteral injury during open, laparosco-pic and especially robotic prostatectomy was reported as a rare complication in series. Po-tential risk factors for such an injury include  excessive adhesions, previous prostate resec-tion, difficult posterior dissection, enlarged median lobes, previous pelvic surgeries and pelvic radiation, and extended lymphade-nectomy. While complete distal ureteral injury, uretero-ureterostomy and  uretero-neocystostomy may be regarded as standard management for ureteral injury during robo-tic  radical prostatectomy. We report on this case of a right complete distal ureteral injury which was successfully treated with uretero-ureterostomy during robotic radical prosta-tectomy.

Keywords:  ureteral injury, radical pros-tatectomy, robotic surgery, uretero-ureteros-tomy, ureteral reimplantation
